Glass and metal temperature sensors

June 2002 Temperature Measurement

Raytek has added two new sensors to the MID range of noncontact thermometers. One is specifically for glass processing applications, having a spectral response of 5 microns and a range of 150 to 850°C. The other is for metal processing and heat treatment, having a spectral response of 3,5 microns and a range of 200 to 1200°C.

The MID thermometer uses a miniature stainless steel sensor (14 mm in diameter by 28 mm long) connected to a small box of electronics. It features user-selectable outputs of 4-20 mA, 0-5 V, J or K thermocouples, an alarm signal, accuracy of 1% of reading across the whole temperature range and a response time of 15 ms. The sensor can operate in an ambient temperature up to 85°C and has a distance-to-spot size ratio of 10:1.
