Netelek's first lady receives ISO 9001 accreditation

June 2002 News

Netelek, based in Stellenbosch, was founded in 1990 to meet the specialised technical needs of an increasingly sophisticated electricity supply industry. During more recent years, Netelek has evolved into a single-source supplier offering unique, reliable and cost-effective solutions for scada systems, grid metering, demand management and building energy management, and has established itself as a significant role player in the South African electricity industry.

Michelle Fulton, the production director and a shareholder of the company, was the first woman in the Cape to complete an electrical apprenticeship with the Electrical Contractors Association and later went on to complete her studies to qualify. Michelle, an experienced production manager for electrical and electronic products, moved rapidly during her career from technical clerk to production supervisor to production director.

When asked, "What has been your biggest quality challenge in the production environment?" Michelle answered, "Change, in a constantly changing environment," and confirmed: "This has become one of our strengths. Our production staff are highly skilled and proficient at their jobs. So, although there were many changes effected, they were facilitated by the quality team we set up to include all staff input, which helped to smooth the process."

Michelle, with her production team, was responsible for the successful implementation of the ISO standard during 2001. All key staff members of Netelek have on average an excess of 10 years of detailed hands-on experience in the electricity supply industry, gained through active participation in the transmission, distribution and reticulation fields.

"We are an innovative, focused group, which believes in the winning combination of practical experience and sound theoretical competence. The company focuses on having the right in-house skills to tackle customer requirements and provide total quality solutions," said Michelle. "The company combines First World skills and technology with practical expertise, to create purpose-fit solutions for the challenges in the power management, monitoring and control environment. The Netelek team, equipped to handle project management and integration, includes registered professional engineers, graduate financial specialists, information technology specialists and technicians. Our customers can rest assured that each project is given expert, specialist attention."
