Screened quick-release connectors for CAN systems

May 2002 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Phoenix Contact's Subcon Plus SUB-D quick-contact range of connectors has been extended for CAN-based systems and can also be used on a Safety Bus P.

The new connector is simply connected without any soldering and crimp tools via double-wired screw terminals and supports the whole transmission bandwidth up to 1 Mbps. The terminal resistor is already integrated and can be switched in via a slide switch. At the same time, the continuing bus segment is either switched in or out. In this way, one ensures that the bus line is only terminated at its beginning and end. This avoids wrong terminations and makes it easier to commission it in segments.

Another novelty is the reversibility of the internal junction box that allows a variable cable feed from the right or left. Furthermore, a high degree of failure safety is achieved by the completely screened connector housing made of metallised plastic (ABS).
