Ultrasonic flow measurement for many applications

April 2002 Flow Measurement & Control

The Controlotron range of ultrasonic flowmeters consists of over 100 models in six major product families ensuring a flowmeter to suit almost any application.

Its makers claim that no other ultrasonic flowmeter is capable of offering transit time, Doppler and slurry measurement in one flowmeter, which allows the user the flexibility of measuring virtually any application on a plant. Their wide beam technology makes the 1010 flowmeters impervious to media or environmental change.

Features of the Model 1010 flowmeters include cavitation and aeration detection, internal pipe wall build-up detection, liquid interface detection, reverse flow and empty pipe detection, 4-20 mA output, 2x 0-10 V outputs assignable to flow velocity, liquid sonic velocity, signal strength or liquid aeration as well as TTL level alarm outputs, RS232 digital output and a separate test port for diagnostic and calibration functions.

Simultaneous measurement of two separate pipes can be performed as two separate channel measurements on one flowmeter and also allows the user the convenience of summing the flow of two pipes, determining the difference between two flows and averaging two flows. An optional pipe wall thickness detector allows accurate determination of the pipe's physical parameters and guesswork of the pipes internal structure is negated.

Offered with a standard accuracy of ±1 to 2% of flow over a 13 m/sec flow range, the flowmeters can be calibrated to an accuracy of ±0,1 to 1% of flow with a repeatability of 0,1%. A unique feature of the Controlotron 1010 series is the built-in AutoZero, which enables the user to automatically set the flowmeter Zero without shutting down the system. In the case of inadequate straight runs, an AutoAutoZero function is included, whereby the flowmeter performs an automatic Zero Check three times per second.

The Controlotron 1010 series includes single and dual channel portable systems, single and dual channel permanent systems, EX systems, intrinsically safe systems, waterproof IP68 systems, thermal energy systems for HVAC industries, custody transfer systems, pipeline leak detection systems, aerospace and aircraft engine fuel flowmeters and the latest addition is the natural gas clamp-on flowmeter.
