Scada with 450 or more I/O

April 2000 SCADA/HMI

Xycom SA used the Electrex 2000 exhibition to entertain and show the visitors to the stand a really good time and to create an awareness of the various products that they distribute. Citect the scada system supplied by Xycom SA is their flagship product, however as a company they can supply, install and support everything from I/O to MIS in the automation pyramid.

Steve Russell, International Sales Manager for Ci Technologies, the developers of Citect, stated "that he was extremely impressed by the high standard of exhibitors stands coupled by the quality of the visitors especially to the Xycom stand, its great." Russell was in South Africa for the exhibition and to meet with various clients of Xycom SA.

Citect is claimed to have the largest installed scada system in the world with a 450 000 I/O system at the Olympic dam project in Australia. The company is currently working on a project that involves the installation of a one million I/O point scada system, perhaps this gives the reader some idea of the extent of the picture that Citect allows the user to achieve hence the theme of the stand.

Roger Girdler of Xycom said "We exhibited at Electrex 2000 to draw attention to all the products that Xycom have under their banner, we wanted to have fun and make sure that people actually remembered us for a while after the show, I believe we achieved this and more. With the South Africans playing cricket and the coverage of the game being broadcast on nine full colour screens throughout our stand, popcorn and Coca Cola being passed around, people really enjoyed coming to our stand, and that's exactly what we wanted."

The products that Xycom had at the exhibition were briefly:

* Open HMI industrial workstations combined with widely used Windows technology and industry leading HMI software from Xycom Automation of the USA.

* Steeplechase soft PLCs pave the way for the future in factory automation by saving time and money and reducing downtime (by up to 75%) with their robust diagnostic system.

* RTP, which is the happy medium between a DCS and a PLC, provides the end user with the best of both worlds, RTP also have a worldwide nonobsolescence policy, which means that upgrading is no longer a costly and lengthy process.

* Sixnet technology allows users to bring information from any I/O device back to any PC running
