New data acquisition products

February 2002 SCADA/HMI

Eagle Technology is offering a comprehensive selection of locally produced plug-in data acquisition and control boards, software and accessories. The company has been producing these products for the last 20 years, and they may be found in most labs and engineering departments throughout South Africa.

The flagship PCI product is the PCI-703, which is a 14 bit 400 kHz analog input board. Available in 16 or 64-channel input versions; the card also features onboard digital I/O, counter timers, as well as analog outputs. It is the ideal product for all industrial, military and university users who want an easy- to-use reliable PC-based data acquisition system. An 8 or 16-channel simultaneous sample-and-hold version is also available for those who would like to sample several channels simultaneously.

For analog output there is the new PCI-766 which features up to 24 programmable ±10 V d.c. output channels. This board is ideal for lab environments where one needs to generate voltages for waveform generation or for power control.

On the digital side there is a complete range of digital input and output cards based on the industry standard 82C55 PPI. For scalability, there is the 800 series which includes a 24/40, 48, 96 and even a 192-channel board. Counter timers are optional on the 48, 96 and 192-channel boards.

Demand for a high protection digital I/O board prompted the new PCI-14B. The inputs are protected up to ±40 V with tranzorbs and resistors and the outputs are protected with solid-state fuses and tranzorbs. Featuring 24 digital inputs and 24 digital outputs, the PCI-14B has six programmable counter timers. For embedded applications there is the PC104-30H, which is a high-speed (800 kHz) single-channel analog input card.

Supplied with all these PCI boards is a free software developer's kit called EDR Enhanced. This software suite allows the user programming control under Windows and Linux operating systems. Most third party data acquisition packages are supported; this includes Labview, VEEPRO 6.0, DasyLab and TestPoint. Programming languages include Delphi, Visual C/C++ (32 bit), Visual Basic (32bit), C++ Builder and Visual Basic for Apps (Excel/Access/Power Point)

A new, free, data acquisition package, WaveView for Windows will be shipping with all boards by the end of February 2002. Eagle Technology provides a complete range of low-cost compatible cables, screw-terminal adapters, relay modules as well as signal conditioning modules.

The data acquisition cards are backed up by local technical support, ex-stock delivery and quick repair turnaround.
