Omron South Africa stages highly successful Innovation Conference

January 2017 News

Following the positive results and feedback from its inaugural Innovation Conference in 2014, Omron South Africa staged another of these highly successful events at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, during October 2016. This is in line with the company’s mission statement of ‘Creating inspired solutions for the future’ through innovation and new technology.

“Omron Electronics uses the bi-annual Innovation Conference as a platform to showcase and communicate new innovation for the industry we serve, and to demonstrate how these innovations provide solutions, improve processes, and challenge the status quo,” comments marketing manager Laetitia de Jager.

The target audience for the second conference was current Omron customers, including system integrators, OEMs and end users. “We also invited representatives from relevant industry publications, with the aim of communicating our message to a broader audience,” explains de Jager.

“Omron’s mission is to improve lives and contribute to a better society. One of the values under this is ‘Innovation driven by social needs’. This places a firm responsibility on us to be a pioneer in creating inspired solutions for the future,” she elaborates.

The theme was cost-effective technology through innovation. “We chose products and solutions relevant to the South African and African markets specifically, and where we believe Omron can make a difference in various industries and applications,” highlights de Jaeger.

Topics covered at the 2016 Innovation Conference included:

• Vision and robotics.

• Benefits and successful applications of VSD regenerative solutions, with a focus also on the AFE.

• Robotics and seamless integration with Sysmac.

• Multi-level Ethernet integration.

Describing the conference as highly successful, and generating much buzz in the industry, de Jaeger points out that the number of attendees “exceeded our planning”. Feedback has been extremely positive, emphasising the professionalism of the conference and the quality of the information presented. “We are planning to roll out the event to Cape Town and Durban in early 2017, as well as staging the next Innovation Conference in Johannesburg in 2018,” concludes de Jaeger.
