Monitoring temperature and position in owner-driver fleets

Curafin Management Company runs owner-driver programmes countrywide and some of its clients require temperature monitoring of the cargo they transport. AWE Telemetry Systems has proposed the following solution:

• GENET GSM/GPS tracking device.

• 1 x I/O to monitor the return air temperature of the cooling unit fitted in the vehicles.

• 1 x I/O to control the remote immobilisation of the vehicle via the GSM Network.

• Real-time alerts of temperature set-point violations.

• Monthly exception reporting of temperature set-point violations.

Temperature and positional data are relayed in near real-time via GPRS to the AWE Telemetry Systems cloud servers. Out of range temperature readings trigger exception notifications that can be delivered via email or SMS. On-device temperature monitoring also allows for SMS alerts to be sent directly from the installed device.

This is useful because when signal level is low GPRS may not be available and an SMS can be sent at a lower signal level. In the AWE Telemetry Systems portal, each delivery trip can be plotted online and a per-trip temperature plot can be generated for proof of compliance reporting. Trip and temperature data are also made available via an HTTP-based RESTful API.
