VEGA’s annual golf day has become a calendar event not to be missed. Each year, an action-packed new product presentation is followed by a day of fun on the golf course, culminating in a prize-giving dinner.
This year was no exception, and group director John Groom and his team surpassed themselves. In his opening introduction, Groom stated that VEGA “does not do recession”. This people-oriented company instead focuses on what it can do best for its customers.

Invited guests also heard from Natalie Barnes, director of VEGA Controls SA, the sole authorised distributor of VEGA products for the South African market from 1 January, 2016. She was followed by five heads of department who each introduced a VEGA product and spoke briefly about their personal growth within the VEGA family.
The main product presentation was given by Günter Kech, managing director of parent company VEGA. He had the attention of the audience as he took them through the history of VEGA’s development of the first 4-wire radar sensor in 1996, up until 2014 when VEGA produced the 80 GHz radar, optimised for solids measurement. Kech’s surprise news was a preview of smaller, more sensitive radar which will be available in March 2016. This will be a game-changer in the field of level measurement for liquids, and South Africa is the first country to be introduced to this instrument.
Finally, Frikkie Strikker, head of external sales, gave a practical demonstration on how easy it is to install and set-up any VEGA instrument using the low-energy Bluetooth PlicsCom application. No more dangerous climbs to the top of silos in inclement weather, when all that is needed is a smartphone or tablet PC.
