Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Sliding gate technology

December 2015 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Sliding gate control valves provide accurate, fast and economical control of liquid, steam and gaseous media. They have the following advantages:

• Compact design and minimal weight.

• Low actuation forces.

• Favourable flow characteristics and variable Kvs values.

• Short stroke for fast and dynamic control, outstanding rangeability, excellent control accuracy and low energy consumption.

• Extremely low leakage rate.

• Insensitivity to cavitation and reduced noise emission.

• Minimal wear.

• Maximal differential pressures.

• Can be used at very high and very low temperatures.

Up to now, the bodies of the sliding gate valves were only manufactured in carbon steel 1.0570 or 1.0619 and stainless steel 1.4571 or 1.4581. They are now also manufactured in hastelloy, monel, titanium, 1.4539 stainless steel and duplex steel. This means they can be utilised for processes with aggressive and highly corrosive media. They are available in finely graduated nominal sizes ranging from DN15 to DN250.

Valves built according to this design principle are short and compact, so have very low weights – as low as 10% compared with traditional globe valves. Since the valve body is manufactured from barstock material, significantly less material is used, especially in the case of special materials. This is reflected in their price. Sliding gate valves not only offer advantages for the process, but also have an enormous potential for savings due to their low life cycle costs, and they can now also be used in processes with very critical media.
