Omron has introduced the new NJ1 and NX7 MACs (machine automation controllers) to expand its range at the heart of the Sysmac Automation Platform. The release of NJ1 and NX7 enables a wide range of automation solutions from cutting-edge, advanced production systems to simple machines.
The scalability of the MAC range is complemented by the new NJ1, the entry level device with up to two axes and fully compatible with NJ5/NJ3 controllers. The NJ1 enables the Sysmac solution to fit within existing production equipment. Sharing a common concept, dimensions, general specifications, and functions, it is ideal for machines with a low number of axes. With architecture that can quickly incorporate the latest information communication technology, Sysmac offers a highly innovative manufacturing environment. It does this by creating a variety of application functionalities with software and connecting its own and third-party factory automation hardware and design tools such as 3D simulators.
The NX7 is the new flagship model, which offers speed without compromising reliability. It provides fast processing speeds thanks to the Intel Core i7 quad-core processor and large memory capacity. Focussing on the future of sophisticated production sites using IoT (Internet of Things), Omron has developed this integrated controller to provide users with scalability beyond the framework of previous controllers and PLCs.
The starter kit includes both the advanced NX7 and the basic NJ1 controllers.
According to Victor Marques, general manager at Omron, today’s manufacturing companies are under pressure to respond quickly to a wide variety of increasing new consumer needs. “This pressure has prompted these companies to innovate their manufacturing production sites by leveraging IoT, Big Data, and other ICT developments. Anticipating the associated changes in the needs of manufacturing companies, we committed further to develop Sysmac and other innovative factory automation devices to enhance our service and engineering support for manufacturers.”
Since the release of NJ5 in 2011, Omron has offered application engines that include database connectivity and robotics. In addition, the range of peripheral devices such as high-speed I/O units, drives, safety components and vision sensors has been expanded. The release of new MACs enables Sysmac to be even more easily adopted at production sites. “Leveraging the benefits of Sysmac, we have created innovative solutions by harnessing its sensing and control technology, its accumulated know-how, and its collaboration with third-party technologies,” concludes Marques.
