Launch of wireless Delta T Alert at AAF 2015

June 2015 Industrial Wireless

At the recent African Automation Fare, one of the highlights was the launch by R&C Instrumentation of the wireless Delta T system from IRISS.

The practice of opening electrical enclosures whilst under load can be dangerous and is being phased-out by many companies for whom employee safety is top of mind. However, it is still essential to know whenever a problem could be developing within the enclosure. To do this, users can install IR inspection windows (also available from IRISS) or, alternatively, install the easy to use Delta T system.

Delta T Alert systems constantly monitor critical electrical enclosures in a facility to complement existing electrical maintenance programmes. If a critical issue arises, immediate notification allows for an appropriate corrective action, before costly damage occurs.

The systems warnings allow maintenance technicians to be notified of potential problems related to elevated internal ambient temperatures. This information and trend data gives maintenance personnel a safety advantage prior to any type of routine maintenance or troubleshooting activity.

Delta T Alert is a wireless, self-contained temperature-monitoring sensor that attaches to an electrical enclosure cover. The patented unit is simple to install and comprises two temperature sensors – one to monitor the electrical enclosure’s interior temperatures and the second to monitor the enclosure room’s ambient temperature.

The sensors are configured to collect data on a daily basis, at specific time intervals. The data is wirelessly transmitted for analysis and trending and warns operators of any temperature anomalies within the enclosure – well before serious problems arise. This provides an easier, more effective way to prevent costly electrical damage and system downtime.

IRISS IR Windows can also be equipped with Delta T Alert systems. When the temperature differences are above a pre-determined level or significantly different from other electrical enclosures within the system, the Delta T Alert will alarm the relevant support engineers with details and the location of the problem.
