Endress+Hauser brings tuneable diode laser spectroscopy to the Fair

Endress+Hauser announced its TDSL technology at a well attended breakfast at The Dome on Tuesday morning. This new string to the company bow comes through the acquisition of specialist laser technology companies SpectraSensors and Kaiser Optical Systems, to fill a void in its online analytical gas measurement capability.
“It’s a game changer,” said Endress+Hauser South Africa managing director Rob MacKenzie. “We have taken a technology initially developed by NASA and commercialised it into a cost effective system with the potential to generate significant savings in the oil and gas and chemical industries.”
The principle of operation is spectral absorption and emission, by a sample gas, of light from a highly specific tuned laser. “It’s an optical scalpel,” explained presenter Koen Roelstraete during the breakfast. “It gives us much more repeatable results than older technologies like the gas chromatograph.”
Interested visitors should visit the People for Process Automation, Rob Mackenzie and the Endress+Hauser Team at stand D33 to see the technology in action.
