Flow Measurement & Control

Long-life turbine flowmeters with nonwearing bearing

October 2001 Flow Measurement & Control

Utilising a nonwearing bearing with low-drag pick-up coils and internal flow straighteners, Hoffer meters are claimed to achieve an unrivalled low pressure drop, repeatable to 0,25% of reading over the repeatable flow range. Hoffer Flow Controls says that it is the only manufacturer to offer a five-year guarantee on its turbine flow meters.

Manufactured specific to application, the Hoffer meters range from 1/4 to 12" on in-line systems and up to 72" on insertion styles covering flow rates from 26,5 cc/min to 56 000 l/min on in-line liquid systems and 0,143 l/min to 20000 Am3/h in gas applications. On insertion meters, any flow rate offering a turndown of 10:1 over velocities between 0,3 and 16 m/s can be measured.

Process connections include standard NPT, MS flared and flanged units with various other connections available to suit any application. Additionally, flow straighteners, installation kits and strainers are incorporated into the Hoffer range offering a complete turbine flow package.

Applications range from standard Industrial liquid and gas measurement to 3 A certified sanitary, corrosive, API for custody transfer, extremely high pressure and cryogenic. The flow meters are specifically calibrated to individual applications and gas applications include hydrogen, flare gas and LPG.

Various material, bearing and seal selections enable the Hoffer meters to be specified for any flow application suitable for turbine meters. In-house manufacturing allows flexibility in design to encompass even the most complex of applications.

Electronics include volumetric and mass flow rate indicators and computers, batch totalisers, cryogenic truck and ground systems, computer interface and various signal conditioning units. Intrinsically safe and explosion-proof flow systems with CE, CSA, Cenelec and various other approvals are available.
