Another new system has been introduced by Raytek, international specialists in noncontact temperature measurement: a laser sighting sensor and a universal LED display unit with selectable outputs of 4-20 mA or simulated thermocouples. The laser sighting device enables the sensor to be precisely aligned, and is controlled by a separate switch mounted where the operator needs it.
The sensor head has a range of -18 to 540°C, and a distance-to-spot-size optics of 50:1. A close focus version of the head can monitor a spot of 4,5 mm diameter at 200 mm. The 1/8 DIN display unit has two adjustable setpoints with deadbands controlling 5 V alarm outputs or 3 A mechanical relays.
The accuracy of the system is 1% of the measured value above 100°C, and 1°C below 100°C. Addition features are signal processing (peak hold, valley hold and averaging) and ambient temperature compensation. The sensor head can operate in ambient temperatures up to 65°C without cooling, and up to 177°C with cooling.

Temperature Measurement
For successful paint cure, irrespective of the paint chemistry being used, there is a critical need to measure and control the temperature of the car body as it travels through the oven. Today, paint ovens are controlled in a sophisticated fashion via thermocouples located in each zone to give constant feedback on the ambient temperature.
