In-line water measurement of up to six parameters

October 2001 Flow Measurement & Control

Siemens Environmental Systems now produces Censar, which it believes is a new concept in liquid measurement. By using the various electronic configurations, up to six parameters can be measured including dissolved oxygen, chlorine, pH, Redox, conductivity and temperature. Censar is well suited to final effluent, surface water, wastewater and river water intake monitoring.

Direct reagent-free measurement of chlorine and membrane-free measurement of dissolved oxygen are possible. The unit requires little maintenance and it operates with a single array for cost-effective multiparameter measurement.

Censar is capable of direct in-pipe insertion up to 1,6 MPa (16 bar) pressure and probe insertion into a flow cell for process applications. Local signal processing of electronics with analog or digital outputs including local display options is also possible. Measurement ranges include chlorine 0-5 mg/l, dissolved oxygen 0-20 mg/l or 0-200% saturation, temperature 0-50°C, conductivity 0,1 to 10,0 mS/cm, pH 2 to 12 and Redox -1,4 to +1,4 V.

The Censar chip is 25 mm square and connects to spring loaded terminals in the probe housing for quick and easy replacement. Its electrochemical technology is based on the use of thick and thin film layers printed onto a ceramic substrate. Thick film layers are produced using specialised conductive and dielectric inks, screen-printed and heat cured.

Compact in design, the probe head is 37 mm in diameter and is pressure tested to 2,5 MPa (25 bar) and it has a 1,6 MPa (16 bar) continuous rating. Siemens Environmental Systems Limited is represented locally by OEN Enterprises.
