Diaphragm valves for abrasive applications

January 2014 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

OMSA offers a range of locally manufactured diaphragm valves equipped with removable polyurethane liners and diaphragms for use in abrasive applications. The valves are specifically designed for use in slurry applications, whereas unlined diaphragm valves are suited to water treatment and general industrial applications. The polyurethane liners not only extend the service life of valves, but also simplify the reconditioning process.

The FPV full bore diaphragm valves have safe working pressures up to 1600 kPa and withstand temperatures between -10 and 80°C. These robust valves are flanged and supplied for standard manual operation with the option for actuation. Stock is readily available in sizes ranging between DN50 and DN350 with either Table 10 or Table D flange drilling.

FPV diaphragm valves with polyurethane liners and diaphragms have been shown to outlast conventional rubber linings by up to five times, giving customers increased plant availability. Experience has shown that a diaphragm valve body can be cycled at least four times before purchasing a new one is required. The FPV range, which offers reduced downtime for customers during the installation and maintenance phases, has been designed for on-site replacement of liners and diaphragms. Spare kits are available at up to 40-50% less than the cost of a new valve and consist of polyurethane valve liners and diaphragms, studs, bolts and nuts, as well as washers and grease.

Polyurethane has long been used and accepted in mining industries for high wear applications.
