The SolidFlow sensor from SWR Engineering is especially developed for measuring the flow rate of solids conveyed in metallic ducts. It has been tested successfully for online measurement of all types of dust, powder and granulates with a grain size between 1 nm and 1 cm; pneumatically conveyed materials; and materials in free fall in mechanical conveying applications.
The SolidFlow is wear resistant and commissioning is easy. Using the latest microwave technology, the sensor is used in metallic ducts. A measuring field is produced by linking the microwave with the duct. The microwave energy is reflected by the solid particles and received by the sensor, where frequency and amplitude of the signals are recorded.
The frequency selective analysis ensures that only streaming particles are measured. Calibration of the sensor takes place in the installed state simply by pushing a button and entering the reference quantity. The process outputs are 4–20 mA, Modbus and a pulse output for flow totalisation. ATEX-certified, the flowmeter is easily retrofitted using a welding socket.
