Schneider Electric’s containerised substation solution

June 2013 Electrical Power & Protection

A range of versatile, portable containerised electrical substations suitable for medium voltage and low voltage switchgear, programmable logic controller panels, variable speed drives and uninterruptible power supply solutions, is now available from Schneider Electric.

The design allows multiple containers to be bolted together and options include tropical roofs, internal cladding, specialised flooring, lighting and small power, air-conditioning, pressurisation fans and fire detection and emergency doors, amongst others.

“Cable entry is through the floor or via side-mounted external cable boxes,” says Jacques van Eeden, vice president power at Schneider Electric South Africa. “The containers can also be fitted with windows according to customer requirements.”

The containerised substations are reinforced for transportation by road to remote areas for applications such as mining and mineral processing. Additional applications include provision of power supplies to data centres, construction sites and other commercial or industrial development projects. Special paint finishes are also available to meet customer specifications.
