Photovoltaic solutions reduce demand

May 2013 Electrical Power & Protection

Global demand for energy is increasing with electricity consumption growing disproportionately as a result of the demands of industrial and domestic systems. This growth is bringing greater attention to the need for renewable energy resources. “Europe’s renewable directive mandates that 20% of energy requirements must come from renewable resources by 2020,” says Carl Kleynhans, country president Schneider Electric South Africa.

As a specialist in energy management, Schneider Electric provides complete photovoltaic solutions for installations of any size - ranging from residential rooftops to utility scale photovoltaic farms. The company also offers easy to install solar solutions that reduce energy bills in homes and small buildings, using affordable photovoltaic solar power systems that are safe and easy to install. Complete grid-to-electrical systems provide solutions for homes and commercial buildings, reducing monthly power costs and carbon footprints.

“The photovoltaic solutions are designed to be as efficient as possible, with a minimal system footprint for applications up to 100 kW. They are usually mounted on rooftops, parking lots or secure ground areas,” says Kleynhans.

“Solar power for typical residential applications delivers up to 10 kW and solutions are available to provide up to 100 kW for offices and commercial buildings, as well as for off grid or backup power requirements. The systems are designed to guarantee reliable, 100% green energy production with zero carbon emissions.”

According to statistics, each year about 50 square kilometres of new roof space becomes available for photovoltaic energy solutions. With large-scale applications, Schneider Electric is able to provide the complete electrical chain between the PV modules and the grid connection. Services include real-time monitoring, advanced automation, power conversion and security.

Kleynhans says the customised solutions are designed to ensure 97% power availability over 20 years. “This translates into greater energy efficiency and improved revenues for user companies because modular solutions reduce costs.”
