Tuneable Diode Laser sensors for oxygen analysis

May 2013 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Tuneable Diode Laser (TDL) oxygen gas analysers are a significant improvement over extractive analysis systems and are growing in acceptance across the chemical and petrochemical industries. Their low maintenance demand, absence of sample extraction and conditioning requirements, tolerance to dust, moisture or gas interference, and in-situ measurement, make them highly attractive in many applications.

Mettler Toledo’s new oxygen analysis solution combines the convenience and ease of use of an in-line sensor with the performance of a powerful gas analyser. The GPro 500 sensor represents a leap forward in oxygen sensors and is the ideal choice for oxygen monitoring in chemical process and safety applications. With the GPro 500, oxygen measurement is simpler, faster and more reliable. Packed with laser technology for interference free measurement, it offers exceptional performance, easy installation, and requires little or no maintenance.

Other TDL gas solutions are of a cross-stack design, meaning that the receiver must be positioned directly opposite the laser source. This causes installation difficulties and requires regular, troublesome realignment. The GPro 500 incorporates a probe that reflects the laser beam back to the receiver in the sensor head, therefore alignment is not required. The laser beam travels twice through the gas stream, so the optical path length is doubled, resulting in more accurate oxygen measurement.

Mettler Toledo’s Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) technology adds to the features of the GPro 500 by incorporating predictive diagnostics that continually assess the optical path quality and indicate when cleaning is required, before measurements are affected. Other than yearly verification and occasional cleaning of the optics, no other maintenance is required. The GPro 500 can be left to provide real-time, continuous, accurate oxygen measurements, assuring you of operational safety at all times.
