Consistent high quality food processing

When the Foxboro 871FT conductivity sensor won top honours in the international food processing awards a couple of years ago, it was the only noninvasive, nonelectrode-based conductivity sensor in sanitary form with 3A approval. Available from AFH Devers the Foxboro 871FT presents no obstruction in the pipeline and eliminates the need for diversion and sampling systems. It features an external calibration port which allows it to be recalibrated without removal from the pipe, saving man-hours and avoiding exposure to hazardous process fluids like CIP solutions.
Conductivity sensors are commonly used to measure the purity of water, an important chemical parameter for many process and other liquids. Possible applications of the 871FT to the food industry include: checking the strength of CIP solution; distinguishing between product and cleaning solution; and distinguishing between two products, such as regular and light beer. Automatic assurance of the proper interface between product and cleaning solution or between two different products speeds bottling or packaging operations and reduces waste.
Conductivity is one of several measurements that can help quantify the consistency of a batch of products. Any measurement that can be made with a minimum of maintenance and a high degree of reliability will result in a more consistent, higher quality food product. Because the 871FT's toroids are isolated from contact with the process fluid, it avoids breakdown of the seal or housing material, the most common causes of failure for conductivity sensors.
