The Raytek MI3 series represents a new level of performance and innovation in continuous non-contact temperature monitoring for a broad range of OEM applications and manufacturing processes. The latest innovation in the range is a single controller with four temperature heads and four individual 4-20 mA outputs. The temperature heads can be a mix of any of the Raytek low temperature heads (-40 to 600°C) or the high temperature heads (500 to 1800°C). Both ranges have three different optical resolutions and four cable lengths.
The MI3COMMA is a DIN-rail mounted unit with an integrated panel meter for local indication and for use during setup. All sensor operating parameters are externally accessible and configured through the standard user interface with large backlit LCD display, or with the powerful Raytek DataTemp Multidrop software via the standard USB 2.0 digital interface.
Communication between the heads and the communication box is digital. This is a move away from the analogue standard and has several advantages. A patent pending feature is the plug-and-play connection of the sensor head – sensors are automatically recognised by the communication box so there is no need for manual setting of calibration codes. The sensors can also be integrated easily into any control system via their internal digital bus. There are no cable bending or moving effects, and this allows continuous, reliable measurement in moving installations such as robotic arms, linear drives or chains. The sensors not only provide self-diagnosis of the internal head temperature, but also indicate if a head wire is broken. This is helpful for compliance with ISO 9001 safety requirements.

Temperature Measurement
For successful paint cure, irrespective of the paint chemistry being used, there is a critical need to measure and control the temperature of the car body as it travels through the oven. Today, paint ovens are controlled in a sophisticated fashion via thermocouples located in each zone to give constant feedback on the ambient temperature.
