New loop-powered level radar

An increase in frequency from 6 to 26 GHz has been introduced to leading instrumentation specialist Endress + Hauser's Micropilot range of radar level gauges with the launch of the Micropilot M.

The higher frequency makes the Micropilot M accurate to within 3 mm, and also enables it to fit into smaller nozzles and tanks with the help of a 1,5" horn antenna. The narrow beam angle also avoids interfering reflections from baffles in tanks.

The second-generation two-wire radar is aimed at gaining large numbers of measurement points in the storage market, as well as process applications. With its new four-line alphanumeric liquid crystal display and free time-of-flight (ToF) engineering software, simple commissioning and operation rank high on the list of advantages offered by the new product. Based on the ToF platform, the Micropilot M offers envelope curve echo evaluation using patented Pulsemaster algorithms. By portraying the radar-signal as an envelope curve, the instrument can be constantly tested for reliability. The service concept of the Micropilot M, as is also the case with the newly launched worldwide-first mm-pulse-radar Micropilot S, is unique on the market.

A modular concept allows the exchange of all relevant parts - electronic, display, antenna, RF module - by the consumer. Another unique feature of the two products is that they are the only radar devices on the market providing an antistatic rod antenna, which means that there is no need for the user to consider electrostatic charge in Zone 0 applications.
