New junction boxes

November 2012 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Lapp Group and FPE Fischer recently unveiled a range of jointly developed junction box and connector products at the Intersolar in Europe. The partners exhibited modular connection systems for crystalline and thin-film solar modules that are designed to save customers money. A completely new design helps reduce the costs of the connection technology and makes servicing and repowering of the modules easier allowing increased automation of the module manufacturing process. The two companies have enjoyed previous success together with their first joint development, the Epic Solar Razor, the junction box that has been incorporated into the new range of modular systems.

Further highlights at the exhibition include the Cool Side product line for patented aluminium junction boxes and Smart Side for plastic junction boxes and components. Smart Side offers innovative solutions both for ongoing development of crystalline modules and for future technologies such as organic photovoltaics.

The FPE PL008 from the Smart Side product line is a junction box made of top-quality plastic for ambient resistant cabling of photovoltaic systems. The PTEE membrane ensures the requisite pressure equalisation while preventing the ingress of moisture and guaranteeing protection in accordance with IP67. Energy efficiency is boosted by the reinforced retention of the ribbons, while moulded cable glands eliminate potential sealing problems.

The consortium’s PV product portfolio is further enhanced by the new Epic Solar 4 connector. This has double locking hooks and is available for 2,5 and 4,6 mm cables. By crimping to the cable, installers join the cables to the new Lapp/FPE junction boxes.
