Explosion-proof light screen enclosures

July 2001 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Banner Engineering now produces explosion-proof enclosures for its 508, 610 and 711 mm Mini-Screen and Micro-Screen safety light screen emitters and receivers. The enclosures provide protection against ignition of hazardous atmospheres by eliminating the possibility of ignition by system components.

The new enclosures are intended for use in environments that include flammable gases, liquids or dust, such as paint booths, cosmetics processing and the petrochemical industry. With a cast aluminium box and a machined aluminium cover, they can be used in hazardous atmospheres, per NEC Article 500. The enclosures were designed to be UL 1203 and CSA C22.2 No 30 for Class 1, Division 1, Groups C and D; and Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G.

The housing's interior is pre-drilled and tapped for mounting hardware. Standard 3/4" NPSM access is provided at the bottom of the enclosure for user-supplied explosion-proof conduit and fittings. Model MS-XPE-32 enclosure has hardware for the Micro-Screen emitter or receiver. This includes the brackets, screws, lockwashers and anti-vibration mounts needed to install the emitters and receivers.
