AWK-3131 and AWK-4131 series

April 2012 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Moxa has released the AWK-3131 and AWK-4131 series, two high-bandwidth 3-in-1 industrial wireless AP/bridge/clients that provide complete and secure wireless coverage both indoors and out. Both series are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11n standard for a maximum bandwidth of 300 Mbps, and are backwards-compliant with existing 802.11 a/b/g deployments. The combination of expanded bandwidth and rugged industrial design exhibited by these new products ensure the highest reliability for data transmission.

IEEE 802.11n

To meet the growing need for video and voice streaming applications, wireless networking products are needed that support higher bandwidths and reliability. Moxa’s 802.11n products not only boast high-speed wireless data rates, but also ensure robust connections by using a combined technique of MIMO (multiple input, multiple output), channel bonding/40 MHz and frame aggregation. MIMO is the key technology for enhanced data rates in 802.11n networks. It enables a link where both the transmitting and the receiving ends are equipped with multiple antennas, which creates multiple paths for the radio signals. This technology maximises the data rate on the transmission end and eliminates the effects of the multipath fading on the receiving end for improved wireless range and reliability. The 802.11n standard couples MIMO technology with the channel bonding/40 MHz operation in the physical layer, which bonds two 20 MHz channels together to increase the bandwidth that is available for data transfer to 40 MHz. Finally, frame aggregation technology greatly reduces the average delay by packing multiple frames in a single transmission. Together, these three elements of 802.11n network technology ensure high reliability while satisfying higher throughput demands up to 300 Mbps.

Rugged industrial design

In addition to 802.11n technology, both the AWK-3131 and AWK-4131 series feature extremely rugged housing that is necessary for the harsh industrial environment the machines are often placed under. Both series also feature industrial-grade QoS and VLAN for efficient data traffic management and integrated DI/DO for on-site monitoring and warnings. The AWK-4131 is an outdoor model with a rugged IP68-rated metal housing that is designed to withstand harsh environments and extreme temperatures from -40 to 75°C.
