July 2001
System Integration & Control Systems Design
BeST South Africa, a supplier of integrated and optimised control solutions, has recently secured a contract from Rockwell Automation, to engineer and commission a control and automation system for a Unilever soap factory situated in Nigeria.
The soap factory will manufacture laundry and toiletry soap products, and will be situated alongside an existing plant in Agbara, Nigeria. The plant will be fully integrated plant receiving raw materials, fats, oils and other chemicals and producing final packaged products.
This contract is the second consecutive project awarded to BeST and builds on the successful partnership developed between it and Rockwell Automation's GMS (Global Manufacturing Solutions) group and Unilever. This partnership evolved from the work done for Unifood's Apollo project.
Hardware and software supply will be the responsibility of Rockwell Automation.
They will supply ControlLogix PLCs, Panel Views, Polycomp Displays, Ethernet networks, RSView SCADA, RSSQL Transaction Logger and SQL Server. Rockwell Automation will also provide the project management services.
BeST's scope of supply will encompass base level process control and batch control. An integrated receipts and dispatch system and material mass balancing system is also included. A unique feature will be a realtime productivity measurement system. This will display a production record of actuals verses targets as part of the shop floor information system.
