Schneider Electric South Africa has won a substantial contract to design, construct and supply upgraded winder electrical equipment to be used at various Aveng Grinaker-LTA sites. According to Helgard Honiball, general manager of the Drives Competency Centre at Schneider Electric South Africa, the system was designed to work on both 50 and 60 Hz in order to enable use over several continents. As Grinaker-LTA sinks a new shaft, the winder will be moved to the new site.
The 11 month contract entails the supply of switchgear, transformers, motors, converters, automation, containerisation as well as commissioning a 3,6 MW dual motor double drum kibble winder. “The equipment is mounted in shipping containers to facilitate easy and quick deployment to different sites,” says Honiball.
He adds that Schneider Electric South Africa has a great deal of expertise and competence in designing mine winder systems, as well as a large installed base on sinking operations for a variety of customers.
