BMG has extended its range of Webb conveyance systems to include automatic guided carts, ideal for moving products on an assembly line and for transporting goods around a plant, distribution centre or warehouse. Benefits of this system over conventional conveyor methods are easy installation and modification with no changes to the building structure required. Advantages over manual transport include reduced operational costs and continuous service, because these carts have a safety bumper and travel on a designated path at a predictable speed, safety is improved and damage reduced.
The system offers various navigation options for specific environments. The most widely implemented is magnetic tape used in conjunction with transponder tags placed on the floor to indicate the locations where AGCs are to perform designated tasks. To modify the guide-path, it is easy to pull up the magnetic tape and re-apply it in another location. In high traffic areas where magnetic tape could be damaged, it is recommended that a bar magnet strip is embedded in the floor. An easy to use software configuration tool enables the specification of tasks that include stopping, changing speed, lifting or lowering, triggering outputs and checking inputs.
The SmartCart system is designed to meet the needs of material handling in industries including warehousing, automotive, agriculture, manufacturing, food and beverage plants and the healthcare sector.
