LED power supply with PFC and dimming

September 2011 Electrical Power & Protection

Mean Well has introduced a 90 W LED power supply – LPF-90series – in order to fill the rapid growth in demand for dimming functionality in the LED lighting market. LPF-90 series is equipped with ‘three-in-one dimming functionality’ as well as built-in power factor correction. System designers are offered the flexibility to control lighting fixtures using 1-10 VDC, PWM, or changing resistance to implement brightness reduction and energy saving modes.

The supplies are fully potted in heat conducting glue (IP67 rated) and enclosed in a plastic case with 94V-0 fire prevention level. The housing is designed to withstand shock up to 5G and provide protection against dust and moisture for the internal electronic components. The series delivers up to 91% of efficiency and can operate between -40 and 70°C using only free air convection cooling.

The design complies with harmonic current limitation per EN61000-3-2 Class C with PF>0.9 if loading is over 60%. This ensures compliance with the requirements of typical lighting applications. The new models use a double isolated cable-style input/output for flexible installation with additional control wires for the dimming operation control. Other standard features include protection for short circuit, over-voltage, overload and over-temperature and compliance with global certificates UL8750, EN61347-1, EN61347-2-13, and EN55015 for lighting regulations and safety. Applications include indoor and outdoor LED lighting, wash-wall lighting and LED stage, theatre and other decorative lighting.
