E-Control is a new way of approaching the automation of manufacturing and distribution systems. It combines communications, information and control technologies in scalable, integrated open architecture solutions for a wide range of applications. This new category of control and information system goes well beyond the scope of traditional controls as we know them today.
E-Control solutions are built on Microsoft Windows-powered devices and include native DNA for manufacturing-connectivity through OPC, COM/DCOM and/or XML. Control is an important component of e-control solutions, but equally important are the integrated connectivity and information components.
It is the integration of all three components that makes e-controls the foundation of e-manufacturing infrastructure for e-business strategies. It is also the integration of control with connectivity and information management that makes e-control so effective in achieving lean manufacturing systems.
