Flow Measurement & Control

Electronic flow monitor

June 2001 Flow Measurement & Control

The Kobold KAL range of electronic flow monitors continuously monitor liquid flow with minimum pressure loss. Sensitivity to residue build-up is significantly reduced as the sensor is contained in a single stainless steel dome.

The mode of operation is based on the calorimetric principle. The end face of the sensor is heated to a few degrees above the temperature of the flow medium. When the flow increases, the heat generated in the sensor is transferred to the medium, ie the sensor is cooled. The cooling rate is a measure of the flow velocity. The microcontroller allows the flow indicator to be calibrated easily and the temperature to be compensated. The instruments may be easily adjusted to suit process conditions.

In the KAL-K a PNP alarm activates if the actual flow velocity deviates from the desired value. The KAL-A version has a 4-20 mA output proportional to flow with an optional PNP alarm.

The flowmeter can be mounted onto nominal pipe sizes from 8 to 150 mm with flows from 0,12 to 6 litres/min up to 42,4 to 2120 litres/min. These are compact devices, with analog output 4-20 mA and with alarm signals PNP or NPN. LED bargraph flow indication is standard.

These German-manufactured high quality units are exclusively supplied by KyaSands-based Instrotech.
