Clearline unveils 5 kW solar energy system

July 2011 Electrical Power & Protection

Clearline Power Solutions, a division of Clearline Protection Systems, has successfully launched its unique solar energy supply system in the South African market. The standard unit is 5 kW output rated, however this can be tailored to generate greater or smaller power outputs depending on the installation.

The system is equally suitable for installation in developed or rural areas without the need for any specialised equipment, infrastructure or electrical connections. The patented design and delivery system ensures that power is available to users 24 hours per day, monitored remotely through a GSM link to ascertain usage patterns and ensure that adequate supply is always available. The system can be configured as pre-paid, billed or free supply electricity depending on local conditions.

Some of the applications for this innovative system are in domestic housing (urban and rural), borehole and surface pumps, electric fences, lodges, game farms, gatehouses, traffic control and perimeter and street lighting. Clearline has successfully installed systems in several locations, particularly in rural Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, where grid power is not economical to install due to cable lengths or lack of capacity.

Using one of the system’s unique features to track the arc of the sun and maximising its effectiveness as a power source, Clearline has installed a totally solar powered solution in cellular phone tower applications. This has allowed the operating company independence from the grid, saving it operating expenses and eliminating downtime due to power interruptions.

Equipment is typically supplied flat packed to allow for cost-effective bulk transportation, once on site it can be set up and commissioned within a day.
