Improved measure for triple point of mercury

June 2011 Temperature Measurement

Fluke Calibration has announced the release of the improved Fluke 5900E which records lower uncertainties and longer plateaux in the triple point measurement of mercury (TPHg). TPHg is one of the defining fixed points of the ITS-90 temperature scale and has an assigned value of –38,8344°C. It is indispensable in primary standards labs such as National Metrology Institutes (NMI), third-party primary calibration labs, research laboratories and universities, for the calibration of SPRTs below ambient which incorporate five ITS-90 sub ranges.

Fluke Calibration achieves low uncertainties in its mercury triple-point cell (0,2 mK, k=2) by further purifying the highest quality mercury commercially available. Starting with mercury that is 99,999999% pure and by distilling it further under vacuum, any contamination that may have been introduced during handling is eliminated. The filling and sealing process is completed entirely in a closed system excluding all sources of contamination.

Each cell is supplied standard with a routine test certificate including three plateaux represented graphically. The product also carries a 12 month warranty.
