Omron offers more for monitoring

April 2011 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

To further enhance scope and versatility of its comprehensive K8AB range of measuring and monitoring relays, Omron has upgraded the functionality of its K8AB-PH1 phase-sequence phase-loss relay. Ideal for use in industrial applications, the relay provides a convenient and dependable way of guarding against accidental phase sequence reversal, which can cause major damage to equipment by making motors run backwards, and against phase-loss, which can lead to motor overheating.

A key feature of the upgraded product is that it can detect phase loss in motor circuits even when the motor is running. The relay, which can be used with any three-phase supply in the range 200 to 500 VAC, operates when the voltage on any phase falls below 80% of that on the other phases, or if the phase sequence is incorrect.

The K8AB-PH1 relay has a volt-free contact output rated at 6 A, which is suitable for direct connection to motor control circuits. Instant visual confirmation of the relay output status is provided by an LED indicator, with a separate LED confirming that the supply to the relay is present.

The newly enhanced K8AB-PH1 phase-sequence phase-loss relay complements the existing K8AB-PA and K8AB-PM relays. The K8AB-PA can be used with both three-wire and four-wire three-phase systems and offers asymmetry detection in addition to phase loss and phase sequence monitoring. The K8AB-PM offers functionality similar to that of the K8AB-PA but adds under and over-voltage detection with user adjustable alarm levels.

All relays in the K8AB range feature compact and convenient 22,5 mm housing suitable for DIN-rail mounting. To ensure easy installation and operation, all types feature a working schematic diagram printed on the side of the relay, and a clearly laid out front panel with, where appropriate, readily accessible setting facilities.
