The latest MX2 inverter drives from Omron, which have been developed specifically to provide a comprehensive and cost-effective solution for machines, incorporate powerful and versatile logic functions as standard and at no extra cost. These functions, which are programmed via an intuitive flowchart-style interface, support up to 1000 lines of code with five tasks running in parallel.
In many applications, such as those that involve indexing, feeding, and general machine control, this means that all of the necessary control logic can be implemented in the drive, eliminating the need to use a separate PLC. This saves money and reduces space requirements in the control panel, as well as simplifying system design, implementation and testing.
The usefulness of the drives can be enhanced still further by connecting an Omron HMI screen via the integrated Modbus port to produce a cost-effective solution that incorporates drive, logic control and operator interface. The logic functions of the MX2 drives complement a comprehensive set of advanced motor control functions, which include 200% starting torque at 0,5 Hz, one-parameter auto-tuning, open-loop torque control and support for permanent magnet motors.
In addition, the drives can be used for simple positioning tasks without the need for an external position controller. Up to eight positions plus home can be programmed by the user and the drive can be switched between speed and position control as required. To help address machine control safety requirements in line with ISO 13849-1 Cat 3, MX2 drives incorporate two safety inputs and an external device monitoring output. This means that the requirement to use dual contactors on the drive output to perform safety functions is eliminated.
Omron MX2 inverter drives for machine applications are available in 200 V single-phase versions with ratings from 0,2 to 2,2 kW, in 200 V three-phase versions with ratings from 0,2 to 15 kW and in 400 V three-phase versions with ratings from 0,4 to 15 kW.
