Rockwell Automation has introduced two new Minotaur safety controllers for light curtain applications to the local market. The Minotaur MSR42 safety controller is ideal for all safety light curtain applications, whether they are large or small. The ‘out of box’ defaults allow users to attach the GuardShield Micro 400 light curtains with basic on/off functionality and fixed blanking. If muting or additional safety monitoring is required, an optical interface along with the configuration and diagnostic software allows the user to configure the module for more advanced functions, including two or four sensor muting.
The latest firmware upgrade (2.05) allows the product to be used with the GuardShield Micro 400 light curtains where fixed blanking is required. The blanking function is configured in the MSR42 with the use of an external selector switch to teach-in the desired blanked area.
For users who do not require additional functionality, the Minotaur MSR41 is the right choice. Unlike the MSR42, the MSR41 provides basic on/off functionality for the light curtain and cannot be connected to the configuration and diagnostics software. It is designed to provide a simple three box solution for customers using the Micro400, which is the only safety light curtain that can be used with this safety relay.
