Gemü upgrades R690
February 2011
Valves, Actuators & Pump Control
Gemü has given its classic plastic diaphragm valve, the Gemü 690, an overhaul to bring it up-to-date. The objectives of the R690 project were to lower the amount of material used and produce a more compact design whilst simultaneously reducing the weight. The valve bodies were improved with the use of modern flow simulation technology. Optimised flow geometry allows the valve to be made smaller without any impact on performance. This reduces both procurement and operating costs. The company was able to reduce the valve body weights by approximately 50%.
Flow-optimised valve bodies allow significantly more compact actuators to be introduced without impairing performance. In addition, a smaller diaphragm size was developed for the DN 15–25 nominal size range. This allows smaller actuators to be used. This, in turn, reduces both manufacturing and operating costs. The smaller actuators have a smaller filling volume, which means they require less control air for each actuation. The effective area of the actuator membrane was also enlarged, allowing the control pressures for reliable operation to be lowered. Both of these features reduce the power consumption and thus the operating costs.
The new R690 valve generation is equipped with an optical position indicator as standard and supplemented by a comprehensive modular system of the latest and most intelligent valve instrumentation.
