Nowadays, users are increasingly looking for simple operation of their machines. Additionally, requests for a maximised machine performance and minimised down time are made. Baumer is meeting these customer requirements by expanding its existing portfolio of IO-Link sensors.
In 2007, the company fitted its first sensor with the communications standard IO-Link – the photoelectric sensor with background suppression FHDK 04. Next to the red light distance sensor FADK 14 a communication between sensor and control via IO-Link is also possible in the new Series 09 ultrasonic sensor since the beginning of 2010.
Thanks to the bi-directional communication between control and sensor/actuator, setting up the parameters is greatly improved and can be accomplished during the process. Additionally, it is possible to avoid machine down time due to error diagnosis or early detection. Remote parameterisation and diagnostics via online communication are realistic for the future. Baumer is pushing the establishment of IO-Link and plans to develop IO-Link products in all its sensor technologies categories, eg, the inductive sensor IWRM 12 will soon be available with the communications standard.
