Beta tests indicate 30% of users’ systems infected with malware; new detection tool gives users a quick and easy way to double-check for threats.
BitDefender has announced the full release of BitDefender QuickScan, an advanced online tool used for detecting malware running on computers.
This new tool adds new features to keep users secure, and along with a revamped website, to provide clear information about threats. The online service provides an easy-to-use alternative to traditional online system scanning solutions - quickly checking users’ systems for malware patterns and virus signatures against an always-updated cloud-based database. QuickScan achieves 60 second scans because the virus engines are located on BitDefender’s servers and local components send only the relevant bits of suspicious files for analysis, allowing significant speed increases over traditional solutions.
The beta period proved the value of the QuickScan technology in a real-world setting. With monthly scans of approximately 2,3 million computers, BitDefender QuickScan detected that nearly 30% of users have infected PCs. The beta tests were so successful BitDefender integrated the technology behind QuickScan into its 2011 security solutions.
“Most people assume because they have a security solution in place they are protected from threats, however, during our beta tests we discovered almost a third of systems were infected with malware,” said Bogdan Dumitru, CTO of BitDefender. “When a system is infected, it impacts not only the user, but their friends, family and coworkers. QuickScan is an easy way for users to check their systems in 60 seconds, using BitDefender’s superior technology and leveraging the most up-to-date virus definitions – giving users piece of mind that their system is secure.”
BitDefender is constantly working to improve the technology offered to consumers. QuickScan is now available via the web, as an add-on for Firefox, extension for Chrome and iGoogle Widget. Once installed, it takes just one click and 60 seconds for BitDefender QuickScan to check users’ PCs for free.
