New release from Schneider Electric

January 2011 SCADA/HMI

Schneider Electric South Africa has announced the release of Vijeo Citect V7.20 software, the latest version of its integrated industrial automation and control solution. This release makes it simpler for system integrators to configure the system and for operators to monitor and control their processes. This is made possible with the introduction of server-side online changes, richer data, the ability to integrate real-time video, improved security and improved overall system performance and quality.

“Vijeo Citect V7.20 delivers a highly integrated and performance optimised monitoring and control system when teamed with other Schneider Electric products. The integration extends from the controller communications to the visualisation of live video, enriching the user experience throughout the life cycle of their scada system,” says Dennis Cox, general manager: MES and scada at Schneider Electric South Africa.

Vijeo Citect V7.20 provides smarter integration between Vijeo Citect and Schneider Electric equipment, thereby facilitating enhanced real-time communication. This is possible through a new dedicated OFS driver that has been optimised for use with the Unity family of controllers. Users can now also meet their growing security and remote monitoring requirements through the addition in this release of a Pelco camera interface. This allows operators to both view live video directly on their scada screens and to control the camera movement.

“Schneider Electric’s Vijeo Citect V7.20 real-time live video capabilities, along with its Windows 7 security enhancements, provide manufacturers and processors with the quick financial returns required to justify the migration, while offering those businesses the protection needed to defend against both external and internal information intrusion,” says Craig Resnick, research director, ARC Advisory Group.

Another key benefit of this release is minimising the need to interrupt or restart the system when alarm and trend changes need to be made. These configuration changes can now be applied during production much faster by simply reloading the configuration. This not only minimises downtime but also has the added flexibility of changes being rolled-out progressively.

Operators now have access to improved real-time operational intelligence through the extended tag information. They can obtain quality, time-stamped data as well as override the values from the field in case of a faulty device or communications.

System integrators can reduce the time it takes to configure a system by taking advantage of the new tabbed-style interface that follows the ribbon interface style of Microsoft Office applications and new easier to use alarm displays. Further benefits are available through the introduction of an equipment database.

V7.20 is fully compatible with Windows 7, enabling users to take advantage of the increased data protection built into this operating system. This is in addition to continued support for all current Microsoft operating systems.
