Interface offers compact.intrinsically safe solutyion for process engineering

Feb 2000 IS & Ex

With the newly developed process interface product line from Phoenix Contact, which includes a base terminal block with a width of just 12,4 mm and codeable, pluggable and intrinsically safe isolation modules that are also 12,4 mm wide, required switch cabinet space is considerably reduced. In addition to the small width, the base terminal blocks are also characterised by the fact that they can be integrated directly on the marshalling level which results in an additional decrease in the required space. Mounting the respective, self-coding electronic module carries out the subsequent function adaptation. Spares can be planned in economically with the installation of the empty base terminal blocks. The costs for the electronics are not incurred until needed, and yet the installation is done.

The base terminal block with a modular terminal block format is equipped with test and isolation functions for each line on the field side. Insertion bridges ensure a fast, safe power supply. The comprehensive process interface product range consists of intrinsically safe smart analog input and output modules, digital input and output modules and programmable temperature transducers.

With the code [EEx Ia]II C, the devices are approved as related operating equipment for all zones and certified in accordance with the guideline ATEX 100a applicable from 07/01/2003. For non-Ex signals, configurable analog buffer amplifiers, current isolators and Namur switching amplifiers complete the product line.
