Turck has extended its range of magnetic field sensors with a new, fully electronic baby-sized sensor for position detection on even the smallest pneumatic cylinders. With a height of only 4,6 mm and a total length of only 18 mm, the BIM-UNR is perfectly suited for all current rounded groove cylinders. Mounting this compact sensor is as easy. Simply insert the sensor into the groove from above and clamp it via the integrated 1,5 mm hexagon socket thumb screw. A quarter-turn is all it takes. The vibration-proof mounting close to the cable outlet keeps the sensor from lifting if the cable is moved.
Being completely countersunk in the groove, the new BIM-UNR is totally protected, and does not affect how the cylinder is mechanically mounted. Moreover, the magnetic field sensor guarantees optimal response characteristics, because its sensor element is located at the bottom of the groove – as close to the magnet as possible. Despite its compact housing, Turck’s new magnet field sensor provides a clearly visible LED that reports the switching status on-site. All BIM-UNR models (NOC or NCC) are available with connection cable lengths of two or seven metres or as pigtail quick disconnect variants (M8 or M12).

Level 9 vehicle intervention for collision avoidance has been mandatory on South African mines since 2022, yet the effective roll-out of proximity detection systems remains slower than expected. This is not due to the technical limitations of integration but to operational readiness on site.
