APC launches Symmetra PX range

December 2010 Electrical Power & Protection

The Schneider Electric South Africa industry user conference, which took place at the Cathedral Peak Hotel from 12-14 September, was used as a platform to launch PlantStruxure, a collaboration system for process management that optimises energy usage. PlantStruxure, which forms part of Schneider Electric’s solution backbone, EcoStruxure, allows customers to improve efficiencies across the multiple domains of business.

Alexis Barwise, an APC systems engineer who presented on the range geared his talk towards the new APC Symmetra PX, the flagship product of the PlantStruxure range.

“The Symmetra PX is a redundant, scalable, power protection system that has been designed to provide high levels of availability in a cost effective manner,” he says. “Easily integrating into data centre designs, the Symmetra PX is a true modular system.

“Made up of dedicated and redundant modules – power, intelligence, battery and bypass, all engineered into a design that is easily and efficiently serviceable – this architecture can scale power and runtime as demand grows or as higher levels of availability are required.

“Further, the Symmetra PX serves as the core power train that drives APC InfraStruXure systems for small and medium data centres, but it can also power individual zones of larger data centres. Highly manageable, the Symmetra PX features self-diagnostic capabilities and standardised modules, which mitigate the risk of human error resulting in increased overall data centre reliability.”

Barwise summarises: “What this solution provides is high performance, three-phase power protection with the efficiency, capacity and performance required by medium and large data centres operating in mission-critical environments.”

Available in two configurations, the PX250kW and PX500kW fit seamlessly onto the data centre floor, into a backroom or against any wall with no rear access required. Features include automated predictive diagnostics, increased overload capacity, extended battery life and on-the-fly firmware upgrades, which all lead to a highly predictable, efficient and simplified UPS architecture.
