This Captor is a flow meter for industrial applications, ideal for the measurement of liquids, semi-solids and a wide range of corrosive media. The small compact unit needs no additional parts. Two versions are available: an in-line version with an integrated stainless steel pipe, and a side entry version, which is inserted into the main flow. A stainless steel pipe runs through the centre of the in-line version and is the actual sensor element. The Captor works using a calorimetric measuring principle (a small part of the pipe is electrically heated) and the heat flow, depending on the flow of the medium, is measured electronically. This provides a linear output signal proportional to the flow. Features include:
* A large measuring range, which is fully adjustable.
* Non-intrusive sensing and therefore no interference in the flow profile.
* High measurement accuracy.
Four different pipe sizes are available and good long-term stability ensures low maintenance requirements. The units find applications in cooling systems, the steel industry, pump protection, liquid and oil applications, paper and pulp and the mining industry.

Editor's Choice Flow Measurement & Control
There are many processes where it is undesirable for the load to suddenly change quickly, for example in the paper industry. Examples of level control have involved reasonably fast tuning. An example of a level loop tuned this way and responding to a step change in setpoint is given.
