Network communication in hazardous environments

According to IAC (Industrial Automation and Control) it is difficult to imagine more severe working conditions for device and media installations than those found in the oil and gas industry. Signalling components at these facilities must be able to withstand the destructive effects of extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, mud, oil and the potentially corrosive effects of chemical solvents. The danger of explosion presents an additional challenge that must be met by ATEX approved devices that are also capable of surviving in the harsh environment.

Systems that operate in hazardous locations have to meet stringent requirements and the data links are no exception. Hirschmann’s range of ATEX approved fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet components were designed to allow users to deploy safe, high-speed data communications under such extreme conditions. Key products in the ATEX approved range include:

* DIN rail mounted switches – broad line of Class 1 Div 2 rated, modular and compact switches with Ethernet port densities ranging from 4 to 28 ports featuring speeds up to 1 Gigabit and ring redundancy.
