Accurate flow custody transfer
September 2010
Flow Measurement & Control
Terminal managers, who face the increasing pressure of maintaining a fully functional operation whilst adhering to changing regulations, must ensure that client expectations are met in full. Cost controls and loading performance are critical to these operations and the challenge of improving the core custody transfer transaction is critical for a profitable enterprise.
An obvious objective is to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of vehicle loading to load as many vehicles as possible without disruptions, spills or downtime. Additionally, leaks in a system guarantee loss of profit and create possible environmental situations with serious repercussions.
Brodie International, a leading supplier of positive displacement flowmetering solutions, says it can provide a flowmetering system that exceeds the stringent international API standards, by utilising BiRotor Plus flowmeters in combination with the Brodie TruAct digital control valves.
The systems offer stability and reliability due to the absence of wear as there are no moving parts in the measuring unit, which also minimises maintenance and downtime. The BiRotor’s ‘low flow recognition’ function ensures that previously unknown levels of low flow are now able to be determined and environmental incidents avoided.
Brodies Savmor programme provides improved truck loading efficiency through fast metering ramp-up and topping which increases the number of loads per day and with low maintenance costs and minimal need for recalibrations.
The Savmor systems are available for flow rates between 9 and 272 cubic metres per hour with accuracy of ±0,075% over a turndown of 30:1 with a repeatability of ±0,01%. The systems are internationally certified for Class 1, Groups C&D, div 1 applications and include PED, SEP, ATEX and ICE-EX ratings.
