Energy for the Caribbean
July 2010
Electrical Power & Protection
In February 2010 sera secured a large order to supply eight dosing units for a new power plant in Trinidad, being built by Ferrostaal for Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU).
Feed water conditioning solved optimally
sera has been supplying systems to power plants for decades, which has enabled it to bring extensive experience to this large project. Boiler feed water needs to be conditioned in order to keep the pH and hardness stable. The correct preparation of the solution to be dosed, as well as the correct dosing of chemicals are critical. Ammonia water and trisodium phosphate are prepared in the required concentrations with the help of special sera dosing equipment. Six boilers in the plant are conditioned with the chemicals to ensure optimum operation.
Safety a priority
The individually planned systems allow the safe handling of the partly aggressive chemicals and ensure the protection of the environment due to the effective sera safety system. The systems are supplied ex works ready for connection to keep on site work to a minimum.
The Ferrostaal engineers say they were convinced by the compliance with requirements, the coherent master plan and the excellent cooperation during the tendering stage. That is why they chose sera as a partner and system provider in the power plant field.
The new 765 megawatt power plant (combined cycle operation) is scheduled to go on line in July 2011 to help cover the increasing energy demand for energy in the region.
