New GWR level sensors
April 2010
Level Measurement & Control
The latest guided wave radar (GWR) level sensor from ifm electronic, the LR3, provides a connection for one switch signal and one analogue signal. Available as LR3000 with BSP process fitting or LR3300 with NPT, the LR3 is just one of the revised sensor family designed to make the user’s life easier.
The sensor itself can now be purchased separately from the probe. In earlier versions users may have needed to stock several different lengths, but now the probe can be ordered as a screw-in attachment in lengths of 240, 450, 700, 1000, 1200, 1400 and 1600 mm. In-between lengths can be catered for by simply sawing off the superfluous metal.
The LR7 series with two switched outputs and the LR8 series with four switched outputs are also available in the new format, giving the user numerous functional choices.
GWR performs very well in many conditions, even with sediments and light foam, making the sensors ideal for all water-based media such as coolants and cleaning fluids. The sensors are cost effective and offer reliable level sensing.
ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximise the benefits of ifm products.

Level measurement of leachate from sewage sludge humification
Level Measurement & Control
A municipal utility in eastern Germany operates a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant with sustainable sludge treatment. The ultrasonic signal was being partially deflected by the wind, leading to frequent false measurements and inefficient process workflows. The problem was solved by replaced the ultrasonic level sensor with KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 non-contact radar.
